Most insurance comparison sites make you hand over your name, phone number and driving history before they'll tell you anything at all. We flipped that.
Nobody knows what car insurance should cost
Ask ten drivers on the same street what they pay and you'll get ten different numbers, most of them wrong by a wide margin. Premiums rose sharply between 2023 and 2025, renewal notices arrive with a new figure and no explanation, and the only way to tell whether yours is fair has been to spend an afternoon filling in forms.
AutoShld starts with the part everyone actually wants first: a number. Type your ZIP and you see what full coverage and state-minimum coverage typically cost where you live, and how that compares to the rest of the country. No name, no phone number, no account.
If the number tells you you're already doing fine, close the tab. That's a legitimate outcome and we'd rather you got it in four seconds than after four phone calls.
When you ask to compare quotes, we pass your request to licensed insurance carriers, agencies and marketing partners. They pay us a referral fee.
That's the whole model. It's why the site is free, and it's why we say plainly that we have a commercial interest in you submitting the form — rather than pretending we're neutral.
What that means for you
The ZIP-code estimate is not influenced by who pays us; it comes from public rate data. The partners you're matched with are influenced by who pays us, which is why we publish the partner list and let you opt out of sharing at any time.

Say what a number is
An estimate is labelled an estimate, every time it appears. We never dress a modelled average up as a quote, and we never show a “you could save $X” figure we can't stand behind.
Consent means consent
We record the exact wording you agreed to, when you agreed to it, and from where. Reply STOP and the contact ends the same second. No re-adding you three months later.
Stay in our lane
We're not licensed to sell insurance and we don't pretend otherwise. We don't advise on coverage limits, we don't bind policies, and we point you to a licensed agent for anything that needs one.
